Native Plants of the Antarctic
View Botanical Profile & Insights
SilvaGrid’s Antarctic hub groups vascular plants native to the Antarctic botanical continent as defined by WGSRPD, including the Antarctic continent and surrounding subantarctic islands. The flora is limited compared with other regions, but includes cold-adapted herbs, grasses, rushes, sedges, cushion plants and other low-growing taxa associated with tundra, fellfield, coastal and subantarctic habitats.
This hub is mainly useful for cold-climate research, subantarctic restoration, specialist botanical collections and high-latitude plant trials. Filter results by plant type and climate group to isolate candidate taxa, then evaluate wind exposure, freeze-thaw stress, salinity, waterlogging, photoperiod, snow cover and micro-site protection.
